B4221 Action Group, 2001 - 2008
1. This is the first page of a developing site for the B4221 Action Group. The group has been campaigning for the Gloucestershire County Council to implement the following strategy for the B4221/B4215 which is used as a through route and rat-run between the A40 outside Gloucester and Junction3 on the M50 in Herefordshire:
a. effective traffic calming,
b. reduction in volume, weight and speed of traffic,
c. avoidance of any improvements that might generate or encourage more traffic,
d. in the longer term, an alternative route to the M50.
We take the view that any measures consistent with this strategy would go some way to alleviating the problems along the route and would be welcome.
2. The following are available on this site in PDF format:
a. an initial report produced in 2001 based mainly on the views of local people highlighting the problems and picking out the proposals in the County’s Local Transport Plan that would help if implemented on this route,
b. a submission to a Safety Study in 2002 commissioned by the GCC as a result of the first report and a meeting with the two local authorities, the GCC and Herefordshire County Council, at which we were represented by our Mps, Diana Organ MP for the Forest of Dean and Paul Keetch MP for south Herefordshire (check),
c. our report on the strategic issues written in 2004 which turned out to be the things we were concerned about, para 1a. to d. above, and which,to our dismay, were excluded from the safety study, and
d. a report on a comprehensive survey of local residents in early 2004 commissioned and carried out by group members and which was presented to the West Midlands regional assembly as an example of the contribution volunteers can make.
e. a summary of our case and campaigning experience issued to the great Gloucestershire debate in 2006.
f. the minutes of our meetings since June 2001.
3. In future we hope to include such things as sources of information and details of our campaign, which might be useful for other campaigning groups.
